Football

Football, commonly known as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s goal, primarily using any part of the body except the hands and arms, with the exception of goalkeepers who can use their hands within the penalty area. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and enforced by referees during matches. The sport is played at both amateur and professional levels worldwide, with major international competitions like the FIFA World Cup and continental tournaments like the UEFA European Championship drawing significant global attention.

Football’s simplicity, requiring minimal equipment and infrastructure, contributes to its vast popularity, making it the most widely followed and played sport in the world.
